The Kindergarten students at Norma School have gotten off to a great start! In Language Arts the classes have been listening to many wonderful and enriching stories during shared reading time. Some of their favorites include: Chicka Chicka Boom Boom; Brown Bear, Brown Bear and Caps For Sale. The teachers have extended many stories by creating learning activities. The students are using these activities during literacy center time. Guided reading in getting underway. It is thrilling to see how excited our students are about learning to read! We continue to learn new site words each week. Our word walls are constantly growing. The Norma School Computer Lab has brand new computers. It truly provides a literacy rich environment for our students.

This year we are once again using the Everyday Math program. We are working on having all students count to 30 by the end of the first trimester. We have practiced counting backwards from 10 and recognizing numerals 1-20. The children have been introduced to measuring tools and the penny, nickel, dime and quarter. We have also explored sink/float and have used a rocker balance to compare weights. The students seem to enjoy the fun, hands on approach that the Everyday Math program offers.
