Language Arts

The Kindergarten students have progressed nicely in the area of Language Arts. Some classes have continued with themes such as What's For Lunch, Nighttime, Pet Show and At the Farm. Guided Reading lessons have been incorportated into each class schedule. These will continue until the end of the year. Much emphasis has been placed on writing, both in the classroom and in computer lab. Our Word Walls are growing with many sightwords. there are about fifty to learn before moving on the First Grade.

Computer Lab News

The students have been enjoying LET’S GO READ 1: AN ISLAND ADVENTURE. Most of our students have now completed more than half of the program. Getting to a book continues to be an exciting achievement. Taking that book home to read to their family is a genuine thrill. When the students read the books in the Lab they are enjoying delightful and interactive activities while helping to build the foundation to become successful readers. AN ISLAND ADVENTURE recognizes that students learn to read in different ways. Some students flourish with the whole language approach, while others excel through phonics instruction. To help students succeed, this program provides a balanced approach of both of those teaching strategies.
The students are making impressive advances at the TYPING STATION as well. We are seeing budding sentences blossoming into small stories. The students are using the sounds they are learning to type these fun and interesting stories.
The MAKE WORDS STATION has been a favorite activity for the students here in the lab. We have used a variety of games, puzzles, and toy-like objects to help reinforce the sounds and sight words learned through the computer. Coming up next; LET’S GO READ 2: AN OCEAN ADVENTURE!
