The following school sponsored activities are open to students in grades 9-12 unless otherwise stated. We encourage all students to get involved.
Students willing to voluntarily give of their time and efforts to run our blood drives are appointed to be on the student committee. If selected, they will meet periodically to organize, plan, and implement the blood drives with the responsibility to cover the areas of registration, donor room, canteen, and crowd control.
Ring sales are open to all sophomores, juniors, and seniors. Rings are ordered in early November of your sophomore year and are delivered by mid-February. If you did not order as a sophomore, you may order a ring anytime during the school year.
Participating students will form one team to compete against other county schools in a quiz bowl format. Tryouts are held each fall. Practices may be held after school.
The student trainer club has been in existence for years. The students work year round with all the athletic teams. The student trainers assist the Athletic Trainer with room preparation, stretching, practice and game coverage. The students learn basic stretching techniques, exercises and basic taping skills.
Students in grades 9 & 12 will form the green team, while students in grades 10 & 11 will make up the gold team. Students will compete in art presentations as well as a series of relay races, obstacle courses, and dances. This is an exciting evening where school spirit will be on display. Parents and community members are encouraged to attend and cheer for their favorite teams. This event occurs in late May.

The members of this outstanding group are committed to providing alcohol, tobacco, and other drug prevention activities and programs for their peers at Schalick High School. Students apply and interview for membership. Once they are selected, they will have the opportunity to attend a training camp held one week during the summer. Membership in this group involves after school and evening meetings.
Impressions is Schalick’s annual arts magazine showcasing the poetry, prose and art of Schalick students. Students may submit material and/or work in the publication. There are openings for editors, typists, proofreaders, layout editors, business managers, and art editors.
Jazz Band is a medium sized ensemble that allows students to learn and perform various styles of Jazz music using the standard Jazz Band instrumentation including a saxophone, trombone, trumpet, and rhythm section. This activity is open to any Schalick student who enjoys playing music. Jazz Band meets two nights a week.
Over 200 teams compete the in New Jersey Bar Foundation’s Mock Trial Competition, which promotes a deeper understanding of the American legal system. Schalick participants will compete against other schools in the county by presenting an actual trial case. They play the parts of lawyers, witnesses, and jurors. All students in grades 9-12 are welcome to join.
Production involving 60-100 student performers, musicians, and stage crew. Auditions for performers are held in December. Practices are held Monday through Friday in January and February immediately after school until 6:00 PM. Student performer’s parents are encouraged to get involved in set and costume construction on evenings after rehearsals are over. The production usually opens on the first Thursday and closes on the first Sunday in March.
The National Art Honor Society is an organization that recognizes students in grades 10, 11, 12, who have completed a foundation semester of the art program while maintaining an overall B average academically. The NAHS philosophy is to promote awareness of the arts within the school and community while acknowledging and encouraging creative images, efforts, and character building attributes.
Peer Mediation is a program that is used to help resolve student disputes in a peaceful manner. Student mediators are trained during the summer.
Relay for Life is an event sponsored by the American Cancer Society to raise funds and awareness. Schalick students may participate by joining a team or becoming a team captain.
Renaissance is a nationwide movement designed to recognize and reward academic excellence, good attendance, and good school citizenship. Schalick provides multiple incentives for students to improve grades, attend school, increase school spirit, and eliminate disciplinary incidents. The criteria for students each marking period are:
- No Ds/Fs on their report card
- No more than two (2) unexcused days absent
- No discipline referrals

STARS prevention group is open to all students who wish to take a positive stand against alcohol, tobacco, and other drug abuse by making a commitment to abstain from using these substances. These students are encouraged to serve as role models and to exert positive peer pressure so they and other students know that it is not necessary to use drugs in order to enjoy life. STARS usually meets once a month for an educational/motivational program and helps sponsor other activities periodically throughout the year.
The Student Council consists of elected class officers and elected executive officers. As an organization, the Student Council organizes activities such as, Spirit Week, Homecoming, Project Safe Halloween, school dances, and various fundraisers such as holiday candy or flower-grams. The Student Council is also the liaison between the student body and the Board of Education: any concern a student may have can be addressed to the Board through the Student Council. The Student Council is a social service organization that works to make your years at Schalick enjoyable.
Students may lift weights (usually three (3) days a week) during the school year. Participants must have a training program from a coach or athletic trainer.
